Skeleton Key starts with a 5x3 reel structure; however, one of the main attractions is the expanding reels, as players have the chance to play on reels up to six symbols high. Players must land winning combinations of matching symbols and there are 243 ways to win on the original reels, increasing to 7,776 ways on the extended reels. The game features 14 symbols, which comprise four card symbols, six picture symbols and four special symbols. The wild subs for all other symbols on the reels, except for the other special symbols; the lock bonus symbol can trigger the free spins when three or more are landed; the mystery symbol transforms into a paying symbol; and the skeleton key can unlock the reels and will expand the reel it lands on.
